We value your privacy. The policy outlined on this page details what information is collected through StopTheFire.org and what is done with that information.

Information Collected

General Information: As with most web servers, ours logs the IP address of visitors, the time of the visit, the name of the page that was requested and the type of browser the visitor was using. Analytics data is collected through Google Analytics each time a page is loaded.

Personal Information: Personal information is gathered by StopTheFire.org only when visitors fill out and submit one of the web forms on the site, and we only collect the information needed to process the visitor's request. Personal information is collected only through the contact form, the petition form, the Community Heroes submission form and the blog comment submission form. Visitors also have the option of contacting StopTheFire.org via email, in which case the visitor's email address will be visible to us along with any information the visitor enters into the Subject Line and Body of the email.

Use Of Collected Information

Collected information will never be used to for any purpose other than that for which the visitor intended. The general information reqarding HTTP requests that is collected by the web server and the analytics data that is collected through Google Analytics are used only for aggregate traffic analysis. Information collected through the contact form will only be used to contact the visitor in response to the visitor's request and will never be used to contact the visitor for any other reason. Information collected through the petition form may be turned over to the appropriate governing body responsible for the decisions related to the content/topic of the petition. Visitors who sign the petition may be contacted to verify the authenticity of their participation by the relevant governing body or its assigned agent but will not be contacted directly by StopTheFire.org or any of its participating organizations. Information collected via the comment form on blog posts will not be used for any purpose by StopTheFire.org or any of its participating organizations. URLs entered into the comment form will be used to create a publicly visible outbound link. The URL field on the blog form is not mandatory. StopTheFire.org does not engage in spamming or other activities that involve using collected personal information for unsolicited contact of any kind.

Information Sharing

StopTheFire.org will not share personal information with any individual or organization except as outlined in the preceding paragraph relating to data collected through the petition form, or as required by law when subpoenaed by a governmental body or agency with the necessary legislated authority. StopTheFire.org will never sell collected information.

Cookies & Web Bugs

StopTheFire.org does not make use of cookies except when a user submits a comment on a blog post. In this case, a cookie is set containing the name, email address and (if entered) the url for the comment author's web site, all for the sole purpose of saving the commenter from having to re-enter that information if he or she chooses to leave another comment in the future. StopTheFire.org does not use Web Bugs at all.
